There is evil all around me. Darkness, which tries to intimidate and oppress. Yet in the midst of it, I endeavor to be like you—unshaken by those who spew forth lies and threats; undaunted by their boasts of calamity and destruction. Wickedness believes it’s veiled beneath a cloud of obscurity, free to prey on the weak. But we know the truth—you see it all.
These calamities drive us to our knees and remind us of our great need for you. Lord, you're our Hiding Place—the hope of the humble. You hear the cry of the afflicted and comfort weary hearts, never fearing that your enemies will prevail. In you we trust, knowing you rule in righteousness from your holy temple. Bring the wicked to justice so your children will no longer be terrified or overwhelmed.
Let my life resemble yours, echoing your heart of compassion toward those who are broken and traumatized. May I defend the helpless, comfort the weary, and bring deliverance to the oppressed, radiating your love into every situation.
