A verb meaning to rule, to be king, to make king

A verb meaning to ruleto be kingto make king. The verb is used approximately three hundred times in its simple form to mean to ruleto be kingto have sway, power, and
Reign
Verb: מָלַךְ (mālak), GK 4887 (S 4427), 350×. Words with the Heb. mlk root comprise a frequent and important concept in the OT. The verb mālak means “to reign as king” or “to be king.” The…

TO REIGN
malak (מָלַךְ, 4427), “to reign, be king (or queen).” This root appears in most Semitic languages, although it means “advice” and “counsel” in Akkadian (and biblical Aramaic) and “own” exclusively in Ethiopic (and old South Arabic). In the Northwest Semitic dialects the root has a common meaning. The verbal form occurs in every period of Hebrew and about 350 times in the Bible.
Basically the word means to fill the functions of ruler over someone. To hold such a position was to function as the commander-in-chief of the army, the chief executive of the group, and to be an important, if not central, religious figure. The king was the head of his people and, therefore, in battle were the king to be killed, his army would disperse until a new king could be chosen. The first appearance of malak is in Gen. 36:31: “And these are the kings that reigned in the land of Edom, before there reigned any king over the children of Israel.” The king “reigned” as the earthly representative of the god (or God) who was recognized as the real king. Thus, he was considered to be god’s (God’s) son. This same idea recurs in Israel (Ps. 2:6). In Israel, too, God was the King: “The Lord shall reign for ever and ever” (Exod. 15:18). That the word can also be used of what a queen does when she “reigns” proves that it refers to the function of anyone in the office of king: “And he was with her hid in the house of the Lord six years. And Athaliah did reign over the land” (2 Kings 11:3).
Malak can also be used of the idea “to become king”—someone was made, or made himself, a king: “And Bela died, and Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his stead” (Gen. 36:33). This verb can be used of the assumption of a kingly reign, or of “beginning to reign”: “Saul reigned one year; and when he had reigned two years over Israel …” (1 Sam. 13:1; cf. Prov. 30:22). Finally, the verb is used of receiving the title of queen (or king) whether or not one receives any political or military power. So it was said: “And let the maiden which pleaseth the king be queen instead of Vashti” (Esth. 2:4).

shift your perspective

,

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, wrote Charles Dickens. The history of the church shows God doing the most amazing things in the most unlikely times.

Don't let the "negative world" perspective frame your thinking, it will chain you to a too-narrow scope of seeing the world and then limit the possibilities you can see.

We are blessed to live in these interesting times.

So many exciting events taking place worldwide.

Yes, these times have uncertainty and disorder hovering over people worldwide, but for us who are believers, these times are revival, prayer, Kingdom of God expansion, and churches filled with faith, vision, and praise.

These times for the church are filled with creative opportunity, maybe more than any time in the history of mankind. Lift your eyes and see God at work, not the devil at work. I'm choosing Ecclesiastes 3:1, "For everything, there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven."

Times and seasons are in God's hands, we just need to trust that God knows what He is doing in our times, and we believe it is His plan at work.

Daniel 2:21, according to the New Living Translation, the changing of times and seasons speaks of God controlling world events. The Contemporary English Version gives a similar perspective on it. "You, O God, control human events, you give rulers their power and take it away, and you are the source of wisdom and knowledge."

Let us not lead with a blurred perspective that has an outlook of "these are horrible times."

Let us say our God is at work, our God is sovereign, our God has a plan and purpose, our God is the creator of times and the seasons. The sons of Issachar had an understanding of the times, Jesus rebuked his generation for not discerning the times, and Paul admonishes us to know the times in Romans 13:11-14 (MSG) – "But make sure that you don't get so absorbed and exhausted in taking care of all your day-by-day obligations that you lose track of the time and doze off, oblivious to God. The night is about over, dawn is about to break. Be up and awake to what God is doing! God is putting the finishing touches on the salvation work he began when we first believed. We can't afford to waste a minute, must not squander these precious daylight hours in frivolity and indulgence, in sleeping around and dissipation, in bickering and grabbing everything in sight. Get out of bed and get dressed! Don't loiter and linger, waiting until the very last minute. Dress yourselves in Christ, and be up and about!"

"Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded." James 4:7-8

Submit: To yield, resign or surrender to the power, will or authority of another.
Resist: Literally, to stand against; to withstand; hence, to act in opposition, or to oppose. A dam or mound resists a current of water passively, by standing unmoved and interrupting its progress. An army resists the progress of an enemy actively, by encountering and defeating it.
Double-minded: Having different minds at different times; unsettled; wavering; unstable; undetermined.

There is so much action demanded in these two verses! Submit, resist, draw near, cleanse and purify. How interesting is it that James ends these two verses with "you double-minded". So often we waver back and forth with our walk with God. But look at the instructions that are given to us. If we commit to submitting and resisting and DO them; we cannot be double-minded. We will be cleansed and purified; but most of all God will draw near to us!

Paul said in Romans 7:15 (CJB)," I don't understand my own behavior - I don't do what I want to do; instead, I do the very thing I hate!" It is our sin nature to be inactive and seek the things that are opposed to God's Spirit. Yet, we see the negative results of this behavior in the fact that obviously if we do not resist the devil, he will not flee from us. The word "understand" sticks out also, doesn't it? The verse James 1:5 says, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you."

God has efficiently and generously given us all we need to know. He has set clear instructions with listed actions. Clearly, we need to slay our flesh and follow the instructions He has given. Being double-minded is stagnant and brings results that, as stated in Romans 7:15, we hate.

How often are you doing things that you look at your life and find yourself doing the very things you hate? It is time to make a choice to live a life of purpose to actively do the things God has generously given in His word. It is to be our QUEST; determined to draw close to Him so that He in turn can draw near to us. What will you choose?

The primary purpose of this learning course is to shine a light on an obscure subject that involves far too many unsuspecting marriage relationships.  I am calling this subject, "EMOTIONAL DIVORCE."
